E-Invoicing in El Salvador

The reform of the Tax Code by Legislative Decree No. 960 regulates the electronic invoicing (DTE) and includes various types of tax documents such as invoices, credit notes, etc. Electronic invoicing is intended to modernize tax administration and improve control. The system is currently in the pilot phase with 50 large companiesAfter the pilot phase, a timetable for mandatory implementation is expected.

August 2022: Legislative Decree No. 960 is adopted – the main objective is to establish the dispatch, transfer,
Receipt and validation of electronic tax documents (Documentos Tributarios Electrónicos, DTE).

July 2023: Start of e-invoicing introduction for Group 1.

October 2023: Start of e-invoicing introduction for Group 2.

The e-invoice primarily covers Business to Business (B2B) and Business-to-Government (B2G) transactions.

format

JSONformat (DTE).

Electronic signature

Electronic signatures are mandatory.

Archiving

E-invoices must 10 years long be archived.
