E-invoicing in Vietnam

​In Vietnam, electronic invoices have been available since 1 July 2022 mandatory for all taxpayers. Companies must issue e-invoices and submit their transactions digitally to the tax authorities (General Department of Taxation, GDT) and register on the GDT website to obtain approval before using e-invoices. The implementation process was phased, starting with pilot programs in selected provinces and cities before the nationwide introduction took place.

2018: Introduction of a voluntary e-invoicing program.

2020: Pilot projects in six provinces and cities, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

2021: Start of the gradual mandatory introduction.

2022: Electronic invoicing will become mandatory for all taxpayers in Vietnam.

applicability

The e-invoice primarily covers Business to Business (B2B) and Business-to-Government (B2G) transactions.

XML-Format.

Electronic signature

Electronic signatures are mandatory.

Archiving

E-invoices must 10 years long be archived.
