E-Invoicing in Great Britain

In the United Kingdom, there are B2B and B2G markets with Except for the National Health Service (NHS) no obligation to use electronic invoices. However, the British government encourages companies to send, receive and process electronic invoices in the B2G sector. With the Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Act of 2015 gave ministers powers to regulate the use of electronic invoicing in public procurement in England. However, this regulation does not apply to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, which each have their own rules.

The e-invoice primarily covers Business to Business (B2B) transactions.

format

UN/EDIFACT, EANCOM, ODETTE, XML and ASCII and PDFformats. In the health sector, PEPPOL BIS must be used.

Electronic signature

Electronic signatures are not mandatory.

Archiving

E-invoices must 6 years be archived.
