E-Invoicing in Mauritius

The obligation to use electronic invoices applies to the B2B sector!

The tax authority of Mauritius (Mauritius Revenue Authority, MRA) introduces a nationwide electronic invoicing system to increase tax transparency and promote digitalization. The system will step by step introduced. From May 15, 2024 Companies must send electronic invoices and receipts in real time via a certified Electronic Billing System (EBS) to the MRA.

May 2024:  Taxpayers with a turnover of over 100 million RS (approximately 2 million EUR) must send e-invoices.

Phase 2 (?): Companies with a turnover between Rs 50 million and Rs 100 million.

applicability

E-invoices primarily cover Business to Business (B2B) transactions.

format

JSON-Format.

Electronic signature

Electronic signatures are not mandatory. One unique identification number (IRN) and a QR code must be present.

Archiving

E-invoices must 5 years be archived.
