E-Invoicing in Tanzania

Tanzania has introduced electronic invoicing to improve tax collection and increase transparency in business transactions. July 1, 2021 is the use of the Electronic Fiscal Device Management System (EFDMS) for taxable companies with a certain annual turnover causing obligationThis platform is operated by the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) managed and serves the digital recording and transmission of invoices in real time.

Timeframe

2020: Introduction of virtual fiscal devices (Virtual Fiscal Device (VFD).

2021: Compulsory use of e-invoicing for companies with more than 14 million Tanzanian shillings.

2025/26: Full inclusion of all remaining taxpayers.

The e-invoice primarily covers Business-to-Government (B2G) and Business to Business (B2B) transactions.

Electronic signature

No clear information available. A Verification code and QR code are mandatory.

Archiving

E-invoices must 5 years long be archived.
