E-invoicing in Uruguay

In Uruguay, electronic invoices are Comprobante Fiscal Electrónico (CFE) known and are collected by the tax authorities Dirección General Impositiva (DGI) The gradual introduction of e-invoicing for companies began 2016 and ended 2022Processing takes place via the DGI platform, which connects companies to the national e-invoicing system and enables real-time validation of invoices.

2016: Introduction of electronic invoicing.

2017–2018: Extension of the obligation to medium-sized enterprises.

2019: Completion of the rollout for small businesses.

2020: Obligation for companies with an invoice volume exceeding 305,000 UI (approx. 6,500 EUR).

applicability

The e-invoice primarily covers Business to Business (B2B) and Business-to-Government (B2G) transactions.

format

XMLformat (CFE Format 22.2).

Electronic signature

Electronic signatures are mandatory.

Archiving

E-invoices must 7 years long be archived.
