E-Invoicing in Turkey

Turkey has gradually introduced the electronic invoicing system (e-Fatura) to increase tax transparency and promote digitalization. The central platform for managing e-invoices is the GİB (Gelir İdaresi Başkanlığı) system, which is operated by the Turkish Tax Authority. Since 2010 Companies can use e-Fatura, and for certain companies it has been 2012 mandatory. In the following years, the requirements were expanded, so that the majority of companies are now required to use it.

Timeframe

From 2010: Introduction of mandatory electronic invoicing.

2012: Obligation for companies with over 25 million TRY turnover.

2018-2019: Obligation for companies with over 5 million TRY turnover.

2022: Obligation for companies with over 4 million TRY turnover.

2023: Electronic invoicing will be mandatory for all companies with a gross annual turnover of TRY 3 million.

applicability

The e-invoice primarily covers Business-to-Government (B2G) and Business to Business (B2B)transactions.

format

UBL-TR 1.2 TEMEL/TICARET E-FATURA-Format.

Electronic signature

Electronic signatures are mandatory. Must be signed according to the XADES standard and have a QR code with a link to an original invoice.

Archiving

E-invoices must 10 years long be archived.
